The BYOD revolution is upon us, but I think companies are still hesitant to fully implement BYOD. I was recently talking to a company IT manager who’s in love with iOS because of security. The manager told me that they’re not letting any of their employees bring their own devices, and only support iPads and iPhones on their enterprise platform. And don’t even mention Android — I think his exact words were, “we don’t even allow those in our building.”
This really got me thinking about a lot of issues some employees have with their phones. Can you really have a BYOD environment, yet not support every platform?
I think Android 4.4 brings a whole new level of enterprise reliability, and news that Samsung’s Knox services is DoD approved, only helps the Android OS. And where does that leave Windows phones, with the reliable stability of Windows OS running in so many places.
I guess that’s one of the best things about being an independent or small firm practitioner; I get to set my own rules.
