How to: Turn Off Contacts’ Pictures in Gmail

There are plenty of users (mostly newer ones) getting upset about the little pictures or letters showing up in Gmail. This isn’t a new feature, unless you’re a new Gmail app user. The pictures, or most often letters, are supposed to coordinate with your Google Contact’s photo. But, since most people don’t have their contacts and photos synced or associated, we get letters.

Some folks, including Mrs. The Droid Lawyer, don’t like the contact photo feature. As for me, I could care less; I like the letter or photo simply because the larger box makes clicking to delete a little easier.

Disabling the contact pictures feature isn’t difficult. In fact, it’s four clicks:

  1. Click the menu button in the right hand corner  Gmail Menu;
  2. Click Settings;
  3. Click General Settings;
  4. Uncheck the box next to Sender image:

Voila, no more images next to the Gmail messages.

And remember, you can still long-press to select and delete multiple messages at once.

  1. You mean you COULDN’T care less. Are you quite certain you’re an attorney? Because you’re supposed to have a working knowledge of proper grammar. So, what Tier was the ol’ alma mater, again? 🙂
