Get the Google Experience on All of Your Devices

Google Experience Launcher is getting a makeover and a new name: Google Now Launcher.

Now, I haven’t installed the GNL launcher on my Nexus 5 (obviously, since the concept’s ported from Nexus 5), but I did update Search. I’ve seen  a couple of small changes — such as fonts on Google Now cards — so it’ll be fun to see further changes.

I did install the update on my old HTC Droid DNA and ASUS Transformer tablet, and the launcher’s pretty awesome. I still need to play around with

The new launcher looks and feels exactly like my Nexus 5, plus it adds the “OK Google” command to the home screen.

The GNL is smooth, incorporating all of the great features of Nexus 5.

Installing the launcher is easy:

  1. Download and install GoogleHome.apk
  2. Download and install the latest update for Google Search
  3. Set the Google Now Launcher as your new launcher
  4. Walk through the setup.

Nova Launcher fans probably won’t be too excited because there aren’t many customization options. But, if you’re interested in making your device feel more Nexus, GNL will do it.

  1. I’m a pretty big Google Now user, so the thought of using its own launcher is appealing to me. That said, I love being able to have five columns of icons across my homescreen (I’ve got a Galaxy Note 2 – plenty of room) so I’ll probably stick to Nova and sit this iteration out.

    • I think Nova folks will want to stick with Nova. The ability to customize the homescreen is too entincing. Really, the best addition for GNL is that it adds Google Now as a swipe in from the left side of the screen, plus you’ll have the “Okay Google” function always available, rather than having to hack it.
