Nexus 5 Goes Live

Not too long after I made my trip over to Sonic for 3 $0.50 corn dogs, Google did the remarkable thing of making the much anticipated Nexus 5 phone a reality.

The phone also has some awesome specs:

Nexus 5 Specs

Nexus 5 includes an accelerometer, GPS, compass, and a gyroscope, plus support for 2G, 3G, 4G LTE cell phone bands.

Plus, like any Nexus device, the phone comes unlocked for use on coordinating networks. Unfortunately, that looks like Sprint and T-Mobile in the US.

Here are my 3 favorite things about this device:

4.95″ screen

I think 5″ is the perfect cell phone screen size. I know the guys/gals with Galaxy Note 2 and 3 devices will disagree, but 5 inch screens are big enough to conduct business on, but small enough to fit comfortably in your pocket.

445 ppi

Screen sharpness is an important factor, and when compared to other phones — iPhone 5s in particular — 445 ppi is awesome. That’s stunning, full HD resolution.

Price

At $399 unlocked, Google’s targeting the right market price for a 32 GB device. Most folks will opt to pay $50 more (16 GB models cost $349). Although, as of this writing (1:47 p.m. CT), the black, 16 GB model is currently out of stock. So, maybe I’m wrong.

Overall, and just by looks alone, I’m chomping to get this device. I’m working as I write to wriggle out of my contract with Verizon or confirm compatibility.
