Android App Review: 3D Image Live Wallpaper

The 3D Image Live Wallpaper ($1.60) app got a brief mention in a recent edition of the Weekly News Round-up, but I’d like to expound on this super-slick app.

3d Image Live Wallpaper

First, the app is definitely worth $1.60. Unlike other live wallpapers that drain battery, this live wallpaper only has a minimal drain.

So, what exactly does the app do? Well, the app creates the “parallax effect” introduced in iOS 7. Parallax is “displacement or difference in the apparent position of an object viewed along two different lines of sight.” You can kind of see parallax in action on some of these sites.

With the 3D Image Live Wallpaper app, your device’s gyroscope enables the app to give the background picture a sense of movement. This video gives you a rather mediocre sense of what the app is all about.

The cool thing, which I really love, is that the app gives you the ability to add your own photos as a background. Now, you can 3D to your heart’s content. I set this photo of Mrs. The Droid Lawyer as the background for my Nexus 7 tablet, and the live wallpaper makes it pop.

You can set the “pitch and roll” on the app to move more or less when your phone does.

Remember (because I didn’t) that the app only works on devices with a gyroscope. So when you’re shaking the device and cursing because there’s no parallax, check your specs.

Overall, this app gets 5 of 5 stars.
