Heat Up Your Home with Android

Winter’s approaching (slowly) here in Oklahoma, and like every good homeowner, Mrs. The Droid Lawyer and I have our “honey-do” list of fall home repairs. If all goes as normally, we’ll actually finish none of them.

That is, except maybe this one, which is upgrading our HVAC thermostat to use an old Android phone.

It’s slightly costly at $140, but aside from the costly IOIO board, everything else is cheap or free, using open source software. Beware though, assembly is moderately difficult, and includes soldering stuff. Probably not the ideal job for a novice, but certainly not difficult. Oh, and you’ll need to get your hands on a 3d printer.

This is just another one of those home automation hacks for Android.
